Balkrishna Iyer

Balkrishna Iyer (born March 13, 1956 in Bhopal ) is an Indian tabla player.

Iyer comes from a family of musicians. His father played mridangam , his mother was a violinist. He was introduced to the tabla game by Taranath Rao and was later a student of Arvind Mulgaonkar . In 1997 he had the opportunity to study with Kishan Maharaj , the doyen of the Benares-Gharana . He toured India and Europe, gave solo concerts and appeared with singer Kishori Amonkar and singer Mallikarjun Mansur , among others . He also recorded various albums with Raghunath Seth , Mansur, Amonkar and the singer Ajay Pohankar .
