Balloch is a small town in West Dunbartonshire in Scotland with about 1440 inhabitants.

location

It is located on the southwest tip on the banks of Loch Lomond . In the west, the A82 leads directly past the city, in the south are the neighboring towns of Jamestown and Alexandria. The name comes from the Gaelic word bal , which means "village", so Balloch means "village on the hole".

history

The Castle Balloch Castle belonged to the Earls of Lennox , the to 1390 owned the land here from 1238th A railway line has been running from Glasgow to Balloch since 1850, also to take day trippers to the steamer excursions on the loch that have been in existence since 1817 .

Worth seeing

  • Drumkinnon Tower , postmodern castle on the banks of the lake. This is where the newly built Loch Lomond Shores Visitor Center for tourism is located.
  • Balloch Castle was built on the site of a 13th century castle by the architect Robert Lugar in 1808 for John Buchanan of Ardoch. The associated rhododendron park is well known.
  • Boturich Castle , a castle from the first half of the 19th century on the south-east bank of Loch Lomond, less than two kilometers north of Balloch Castle
