Bamba is a city and rural community in central Mali . The city is located on the banks of the Niger River , 190 kilometers east of Timbuktu and 230 kilometers northwest of Gao . The municipality of Bamba consists of 19 smaller villages and seven nomadic groups, including mainly Songhai , but also Tuareg and Bozo . At the 2009 census , the parish had about 29,000 inhabitants.
Ted Joans wrote a poem on Bamba entitled Le fou de Bamba (Eng .: The madness of Bamba ).
