overview
- Itzgründische borders in the north , line Ebern - Bad Staffelstein ,
- in the east the Upper Franconian , line Weismain - Hollfeld - Pottenstein ,
- in the south the Nuremberg region , south of Forchheim ,
- in the west (in the Main Valley ) near the Haßfurt district of Augsfeld and in the Steigerwald ( Prölsdorf - Ebrach ) the Lower East Franconian .
Steigerwald barrier
The western language border between Bamberg (pink on the map) and Lower East Franconian (yellow) is not only called the Bamberg barrier, but also the Steigerwald barrier . The border is easy to recognize because the frequently used vowels 'e' and 'a' change there. If the 'a' is mainly used in Bamberg, from the Haßfurt area it is replaced by the 'e', for example Baa - Bee (Bein), Staa - Stee (Stein) or Maa - Mee (Main).
Furthermore, diminutives are formed in the Bamberg area using the ending 'a', while the 'i' is used in Lower East Franconia, for example Brödla - Brödli (bread roll), Käsdla - Käsdli (box).
The Steigerwald barrier does not coincide with the border between the administrative districts of Upper Franconia and Lower Franconia , but runs in the Main Valley 14 km further west near Augsfeld. It is also identical to the western border of beer Franconia .
