Linguistic classification |
The Bamberg or Bamberg is an East Franconian dialect . It is widespread in the Bamberg, Forchheim and Erlangen area, i.e. in the entire lower Regnitz area north of Erlangen. The dialect area corresponds to the core area of the historic bishopric of Bamberg , whose territory in Franconia also included an East Franconian language area and fringes of Itzgründischen and Southeast Thuringian .
Districts and urban districts in which Bambergish is spoken:
- City of Bamberg
- Bamberg district (with the exception of the Ebrach market)
- Erlangen-Höchstadt district
- Forchheim district
- Haßberge district (in the municipalities of Breitbrunn, Ebelsbach, Ebern, Eltmann, Kirchlauter, Oberaurach, Rentweinsdorf, Stettfeld, Zeil a. Main)
Language boundaries
The border between the Bamberg dialect and other Main Franconian dialects is known as the Bamberg barrier .
- Itzgründische borders in the north : Ebern - Bad Staffelstein line
- In the east the Upper Franconian : Line Weismain - Hollfeld - Pottenstein
- In the south, the Nuremberg area : south of Forchheim
- In the west the Lower Franconian : Prölsdorf - Ebrach
The western language border between the Bamberg and Lower Franconian dialect is easy to recognize in the dialect, as the frequently used vowels 'e' and 'a' alternate here.
If the 'a' is mainly used in Upper Franconia, it is replaced by the 'e' in the Haßberger area, for example Baa - Bee (Bein), Staa - Stee (Stein) or Maa - Mee (Main).
Furthermore, diminutives are formed in the Bamberg area using the ending -a, while the -i is used in Lower Franconia, for example Brödla - Brödli (bread roll), Käsdla - Käsdli (box).
