Banfora is an important urban administrative center in the West African state of Burkina Faso . The city is the main municipality of the department of the same name and at the same time capital of the province of Comoé and the Cascades region . It is located in the southwest of the country on the Chaîne de Banfora . 63,300 inhabitants (2007 census) live in the city, which comprises 15 sectors, and 109,824 inhabitants (2006 census) in the Banfora department, which still has 22 villages.

Banfora is on the railway line from Ouagadougou to Abidjan . Around Banfora there are huge sugar cane plantations, the center of the Burkinabe sugar industry. Phytopharmaceuticals and essential oils are also produced in Banfora .

From Banfora the natural attractions of the region can be visited, e.g. B. Cascades de Banfora (= C. de Kerfiguéla) , Dômes de Fabédougou , Téngrélasee and Pics de Sindou .

Banfora is the seat of the Diocese of Banfora .
