Bánh mì

Bánh mì is the Vietnamese term for a specific type of sandwich . Originally it was the name for bread of all kinds. The baguette , which is mostly used for Bánh mì, was introduced by the French in Indochina during colonialism and has become the most popular form of bread. In contrast to the French baguette, the Vietnamese Bánh mì is a little fluffier and has a thinner crust, which is due to the added rice flour.

Bánh mì is known in many countries as the Vietnamese sandwich , in the USA also as the Vietnamese Po 'boy (local pronunciation in New Orleans from poor boy ). The Bánh mì combines ingredients from French cuisine with products from Vietnamese cuisine, such as long coriander , fish sauce and pickled carrots . Banh mi is often served with scrambled eggs , which are usually prepared with chives .

In 2011 the term Bánh mì was added to the Oxford English Dictionary . On March 24, 2020, the search engine Google ennobled Bánh mì with a Google Doodle and made it even more popular.
