Banished ( English for " banned ") is a construction simulation for Microsoft Windows from the development studio Shining Rock Software from 2014. Its focus is on the survival of an isolated community.

action

In Banished the player starts in a modern scenario with some exiled settlers and a building yard. In the beginning it is necessary to mine wood, stone and iron ore and clear the surrounding land in order to obtain raw materials and building land. The aim of the game is to get your settlers through the winter, to save them from starvation, to ensure satisfaction and to provide them with shelter, food, clothing and firewood and finally to transform the initially small community into a prosperous city with complex economic cycles. In contrast to many other building simulations, Banished does not know any game currency, but barter.

Development history

Work on the game began in August 2011. A release was announced for the end of 2013 and finally took place in February 2014.

The sole developer is the game designer Luke Hodorowicz under the studio name Shining Rock Software. The game was programmed in C ++ and is available as a 32- and 64-bit version with support for DirectX 9 and 11 for Microsoft Windows. Hodorowicz stated that with greater success, other platforms could follow.

Mod kit

The game has supported modifications since August 26, 2014 as a beta version and as a stable version since November 4, 2014 . To this end, developer Hodorowicz has released a so-called “Mod Kit” that enables players to edit internal game values. The integration of new goods, companies and professions is also possible. Banished supports several modifications at the same time, for which the modifications are encapsulated in their own files and can be switched on individually in the game. Since the Mod Kit was released, various mods have been offered on various online platforms.
