The bank was founded in Uznach in 1848 under the name Leih- & Spar-Kassa des See district . In 1852 the bank adapted to the Swiss franc system after having issued its own banknotes worth 10 guilders for four years .
Bank Linth experienced its first phase of expansion between 1905 and 1926 when it opened various branches in the region. The bank experienced a second growth spurt from 1967 after the takeover of Spar- und Leihkasse Schmerikon and the opening of further branches in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1988 the merger with Sarganserländische Bank followed , followed in 1993 by the merger with Sparkasse Stäfa and the takeover of Sparkasse Uetikon . After various name changes, the bank changed its name to Bank Linth in 1994 . In 2002 she acquired the Kaltbrunn savings and loan cash register . After an unsuccessful takeover offer by the Glarner Kantonalbank , the Liechtensteinische Landesbank acquired 74.2 percent of the shares in Bank Linth.
