Barbara Ahrens

Barbara Ahrens (born June 23, 1969 in Uslar ) is a German linguist and interpreter . As a professor for the theory and practice of interpreting, she teaches Spanish at the Institute for Translation and Multilingual Communication (ITMK) of the Faculty of Information and Communication Sciences at the Technical University of Cologne .

Life

Barbara Ahrens was born in 1969. Barbara Ahrens has been working as a freelance conference interpreter and translator since graduating as a certified interpreter with Spanish and English at the Institute for Translation and Interpreting (IÜD) at Heidelberg University . From 1996 to 2002 she was a lecturer for note technology at the IÜD of Heidelberg University. In 1998 she took part in the “Program d'Insertion des Jeunes Interprètes” of the Directorate-General for Interpretation of the European Commission (SCIC) in Brussels. From 2002 to 2003 Barbara Ahrens worked as a research assistant at the Department of Applied Linguistics and Communication Studies (FASK) at the University of Mainz in Germersheim , where she received her doctorate in 2003 in the subject of "General Translation Studies " with a dissertation on prosody in simultaneous interpreting . Subsequently (2003–2006) she was appointed junior professor for translation studies with special consideration of cognitive aspects at the FASK. Barbara Ahrens has been professor for the theory and practice of Spanish interpreting at the ITMK at the Technical University of Cologne since 2006 and was appointed head of the conference interpreting master’s course in the following year. In addition to her freelance work, Barbara Ahrens holds numerous courses, lectures and advanced training on note-taking technology at home and abroad. In addition, she represents the Technical University of Cologne at CIUTI .
