Michael Schreiber (Linguist)

Michael Schreiber (born August 10, 1962 in Fritzlar ) is a German linguist with a focus on translation, linguistics and cultural studies. He is Professor of French and Italian Linguistics and Translation Studies in the Department of Translation, Linguistics and Cultural Studies (FTSK) at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germersheim . He is the representative of the FTSK Germersheim in the Transforum (coordination committee practice and teaching in the field of translation and interpreting). He is also co-editor of the FASK series . Publications from the Department of Applied Linguistics and Cultural Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germersheim .

Life

Michael Schreiber completed his studies as a qualified translator in Germersheim in 1988. In 1993 he did his doctorate in Germersheim on the subject of “Translation and Editing. To differentiate and delimit the term translation “and was awarded the Johannes Gutenberg University Prize for his dissertation. In 1998 he was awarded the text “Text grammar - spoken language - language comparison. Proformen in Spoken French and German ”in Heidelberg. In 2004 and 2005 he represented various professorships in Stuttgart, Graz and Innsbruck and was Professor of French Linguistics and Translation Studies at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences . For the winter semester 2005/2006 he was appointed professor for Romance studies at the FTSK of the University of Mainz in Germersheim. From 2008 to 2011 Schreiber was Dean of the FTSK Germersheim.

Schreiber was visiting professor / lecturer at the University of Montpellier , the University of Trieste , the University of Ghent and the University of Antwerp . He works as a reviewer for the Franco-German University as well as for the Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek Vlaanderen Fund and the accreditation agencies Accreditation, Certification and Quality Assurance Institute (ACQUIN), Agency for Quality Assurance through Accreditation of Study Programs (AQAS) and the Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (ZEvA).

  • 2003–2005: "Linguistic foundations of literary translation" (cooperation between the Universities of Heidelberg and Montpellier)
  • 2005–2006: Participation in the project "Translation - Borrowing - Language History" under the direction of Jörn Albrecht , Heidelberg University

More functions

Since 2005 he has been leading the lecture series "Translation Studies Colloquium" at the FTSK Germersheim together with Silvia Hansen-Schirra .

Since 2009 he has been working on the inter-university research project "Translation and Rhetoric" for the relevant courses in Saarbrücken, Trier, Heidelberg, Duisburg-Essen and Germersheim.

Since 2010 he has headed the organizing committee for the 7th Congress of the "European Society for Translation Studies" in Germersheim, which took place from August 29 to September 1, 2013 under the title "Translation Studies: Centers and Peripheries".

Since 2011 Michael Schreiber has been researching the subject of "Translation Policy During the French Revolution ". In addition, since 2011 he has been working on the conception of a graduate school on the subject of "Second-hand writing" as part of the research focus on historical cultural studies at the University of Mainz.

Since 2012 he and Silvia Hansen-Schirra have been leading the research project “Translating and Interpreting Political Speeches”.
