(24997) Petergabriel is an asteroid of the inner main belt that was discovered on July 23, 1998 as part of the OCA-DLR Asteroid Survey (ODAS), a project of the OCA (Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur) and the DLR ( German Center for Air - and space travel ), was discovered at the 90 cm Schmidt telescope of the French Observatoire de Calern ( IAU code 910).
The orbit data of the asteroid correspond to the Nysa group, a group of asteroids named after (44) Nysa (also called the Hertha family, after (135) Hertha ).
(24997) Petergabriel was named on August 19, 2008 after the English musician Peter Gabriel .
