Wolfgang Poeckl
Wolfgang Pöckl (born August 11, 1952 in Sankt Gilgen ) is an Austrian linguist and translation specialist .
Live and act
In 1970, Wolfgang Pöckl began studying Romance and German at the University of Salzburg , which he completed in 1975 with a master's degree in teaching French / German. From 1973 he worked as a lecturer for German language and Austrian culture at the Center Universitaire in Le Mans (France). After graduating, he worked as a university assistant at the Institute for Romance Studies at the University of Salzburg. There he did his doctorate on the subject of the translation of literary texts: Peter Handke's story "Desireless Ungluck" in English, French, Spanish and Italian in 1978 for Dr. phil. The habilitation followed in 1988 with the work forms productive reception of François Villons in the German-speaking area . He was then appointed head of the Department of Translation Studies and Reception Research at the Institute for Romance Studies at the University of Salzburg. He has also taught as visiting professor in Luxembourg, Graz, Innsbruck, Lausanne and Valencia, among others.
In 1997 he was appointed Professor of Romance Studies at the Department of Applied Linguistics and Cultural Studies at the University of Mainz in Germersheim, where he also held the office of Dean for a period of office. Since 2003 he has been professor at the Institute for Translation Studies at the University of Innsbruck , which he took over in 2005.
Pöckl's research focuses on contrastive linguistics, translation history, specialist language research, specialist translation and literary translation. Among other things, he is a member of the German Association of Romanists and the German Association of Hispanics .
