Ursula Wienen

Ursula Wienen (* 1965 in Neuss ) is a German linguist and translation specialist. She teaches as a professor at the Technical University of Cologne (formerly Cologne University of Applied Sciences), Faculty for Information and Communication Sciences, Institute for Translation and Multilingual Communication.

Life

After graduating from high school in Neuss in 1984, Wienen completed a commercial training at Thyssen in Düsseldorf, where she worked until 1989. In 1989 she began studying French and Spanish as a translator at the Technical University of Cologne, which she graduated with a diploma in 1993. For her achievements she was awarded the prize of the Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators (BDÜ) for the best translator qualification of the FH 1993. She then studied Romance studies at the University of Cologne, specializing in French and Spanish, as well as general linguistics, and obtained her master's degree in 2002. From 1995 to 2002 she was also managing director of ProLogos Sprachendienste in Cologne. From 2002 to 2007 she worked as a research assistant at the chair for Romance Translation Studies at Saarland University , where she did her doctorate in 2006 with Alberto Gil on the subject of the translatability of marked forms of cohesion . In November 2007 he was appointed to the professorship “French Linguistics and Translation Studies with a Focus on Technical Translation” at the Technical University of Cologne. From 2008 to 2010 she also held teaching positions at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and from 2014 to 2015 at the University of Cologne (legal linguistics; Romance studies). In 2016, she completed her habilitation at Saarland University on the subject of translation of technical language in literary texts and obtained the Venia Legendi for Romance language and translation studies.
