Barbara Corday

Barbara Corday (born October 15, 1944 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York ) is an American screenwriter and film producer .

Life

Corday is the daughter of the composer Leo Corday , who wrote Tony Martin's biggest hit There's No Tomorrow . After initially taking on various freelance activities in show business, she moved to Los Angeles in 1967 . In 1972 she teamed up with writer Barbara Avedon , with whom she developed scripts for television series and pilot films until 1979 . The concept for Cagney and Lacey emerged as early as 1974 , which could not be sold to CBS until 1981 . The pilot was successful and the series eventually ran until 1988.

From 1979 to 1982, Corday was vice president of comedy at ABC , and from 1984 to 1987 she headed Columbia Pictures . Between 1988 and 1990 she was responsible for the main evening programming at CBS and from 1993 to 1994 she directed the film production company New World Television founded by Roger Corman .

Corday has been married twice.
