Barbara Davatz

Barbara Davatz (born April 27, 1944 in Zurich ) is a Swiss photographer specializing in portrait and reportage photography . She lives and works in Steg in the Tösstal Canton of Zurich.

life and work

Barbara Davatz attended the preliminary course at the Basel School of Design in 1964 , after which she successfully completed the photography class at the Zurich University of the Arts . She works as a freelance photographer for magazines and advertising. In many commissioned and freelance work she deals with conceptual photography in the genres of portrait and landscape photography.

At the invitation of the City of Zurich, in 1975, in the year of women , she showed the exhibition Women See Women with artists such as Doris Stauffer , Bice Curiger , Rosina Kuhn , Irene Staub and Sissi Zöbeli in the Strauhof Zurich . For this exhibition, Barbara Davatz realized a series of portraits of 29 women whom she spoke to on the street and then portrayed in the studio.

In 2009 the book Beauty lies within was published , a series of portraits of young fashion salespeople from a global fashion chain. In 2015 her main work As Time goes by: 1982 1988 1997 2014 was published as a monograph by Edition Patrick Frey .
