Barbara Drossel (born September 4, 1963 in Cologne ) is a German physicist . Since 2002 she has been professor for theoretical physics at the Technical University of Darmstadt .

Life

She studied physics at the Technical University of Munich . There she completed her diploma (1989) and doctoral thesis on structure formation in open systems using the example of a forest fire model (1993) in Franz Schwabl's group . This was followed by several postdoc stays at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the USA , at the University of Manchester in England and the University of Tel Aviv . After completing her habilitation in 1999 on scale behavior in systems with disorder and in non-equilibrium systems , she has been professor for theoretical physics at the Institute for Solid State Physics at TU Darmstadt since February 2002.

Scientific work

In more than 130 articles she deals with the field of theory of complex systems . She is the spokesperson of the 2012 established DFG - Research Unit "Networks on networks: the interplay of structure and dynamics in extensive ecological networks".

Other activities

Barbara Drossel also deals with religious topics such as the compatibility of faith and science. To this end, she published the following works:

  • What virtues does a good scientist need? Reflections between Faith and Science . Evangelical Academy Baden, Karlsruhe 2012, ISBN 978-3-89674-570-5 .
