Barbara Naumann

Barbara Naumann (* 1954 ) is a German literary scholar .

Life

Barbara Naumann studied German , English , general and comparative literature and philosophy in Tübingen , Chicago and at the Free University of Berlin . In 1988 she received her doctorate at the Peter Szondi Institute of the Free University of Berlin with the dissertation musical ideas instrument . In 1996 she completed her habilitation there with a study on Goethe and Ernst Cassirer .

From 1998 to 2000 she held a professorship for German and cultural studies at the University of Hamburg ; from 2000 until her retirement in 2019 she was full professor for modern German literature at the University of Zurich . Her main focus is on literature and other arts, aesthetics and poetics, literary and cultural studies. She is the editor of figurationen magazine . In 2016 she was a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Cultural Studies (IFK), Vienna. In cooperation with the Johann Caspar Lavater Research Foundation , Zurich, she heads the JCLB edition project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, the historical-critical edition of selected correspondence by Lavater.
