Konrad Rupf
Konrad Rupf (born May 23, 1929 in Pöhlau near Zwickau , † April 29, 2013 in Chemnitz ) was a German opera singer ( bass baritone ).
Life
Rupf initially received private singing lessons in Weimar and attended the Weimar Academy of Music . Further studies took place at the Musikhochschule Berlin . He received his first permanent engagement in 1955 at the Stadttheater Cottbus ; there he made his debut as Dulcamara in the opera Der Liebestrank . Until 1958 Rupf was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Cottbus City Theater. There he developed 21 new specialist roles in three seasons.
In 1958 he moved to the Chemnitz Opera House . Rupf sang roles from the serious bass compartment there; bass buffo and character bass roles were also part of his repertoire. The main roles that Rupf sang at the Chemnitz Opera House included: Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail , Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte , Leporello in Don Giovanni , Don Pizarro in Fidelio , Kaspar in Der Freischütz , Hans Sachs in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg , die Title role in Mathis der Maler , Porgy in Porgy and Bess and the title role in the opera Puntila by Paul Dessau .
In 1980 he was engaged at the Leipzig Opera; there he stayed with the ensemble until 1984. There he sang again among others Hans Sachs, as well as König Marke in Tristan and Isolde , Gurnemanz in Parsifal (1982/1983 season) and Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte .
Rupf's repertoire comprised a total of almost 130 operatic roles (with leading and supporting roles).
He has made several guest appearances at the Dresden State Opera . In March 1973 he sang there in the world premiere of the opera Levins Mühle by Udo Zimmermann . In 1999 he appeared there as Feri von Kerekes (Feri Bácsi) in the operetta Die Csárdásfürstin .
He made guest appearances at the Komische Oper Berlin (1988 as Zaccaria in Nabucco ), the National Opera Budapest (1977) and the Bratislava Opera . In July 1989 he sang the role of Napoleon in the world premiere of the opera Graf Mirabeau by Siegfried Matthus at the Berlin State Opera . In 1993 he sang the role of Hans Sachs again at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste . In 1996 he appeared at the Landestheater Dessau in the stage work Der Silbersee by Kurt Weill . He also appeared as a concert singer in the course of his career. In 2003 he retired after a last appearance as milkman Tevje in the musical Der Fiedler auf dem Dach at the Landesbühnen Sachsen .
From 1980 to 1990 he held a teaching position at the Leipzig Music Academy . In 1980 he was appointed chamber singer . In 1985 he received the National Prize of the GDR III. Art and literature class for outstanding singing and acting. Rupf was an honorary member of the Leipzig Opera.
Konrad Rupf lived in Chemnitz after he left the stage.

There are some audio documents from Konrad Rupf. In 1970 Rupf sang the title role of the opera Gianni Schicchi in a complete German recording. The recording was released on record in 1973 with the record label Eterna . In 1973 he sang the doctorate in the opera Wozzeck in a studio recording ; Herbert Kegel was the conductor . The recording was released on record in 1974 on the Eterna label. In a live recording from the Hamburg State Opera , he can be heard under the musical direction of Ingo Metzmacher as the first craftsperson in the Wozzeck opera by Alban Berg . The recording was released in 1988 on the EMI label. There are also radio recordings and recordings. In 1977 he sang the role of the village judge Adam in the opera The Broken Krug by Fritz Geißler in a radio production of the Leipziger Rundfunk .
In 1974 he took part in the children's opera Pinocchio's adventures by Kurt Schwaen in a singing role as a fire eater; the recording was released in 1974 by the audio play label LITERA .
