Barbara Schmidt-Gaden (* 1971 in Munich ) is a German opera, oratorio, lied and concert singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Barbara Schmidt-Gaden received her first musical impulses from her father Gerhard Schmidt-Gaden , who founded the Tölzer Boys Choir in 1956. As a boy she belonged to the world-famous choir. She completed her vocal studies in Bern and Mannheim a. a. with Ursula Buckel , Elisabeth Glauser and Katharina Dau . She also worked with Ingrid Haubold , Hanno Blaschke and Daniel E. Ferro .

She gained her first solo experience as the third boy in Mozart's Magic Flute at the Salzburg Festival, at the opera houses of Lyon, Bordeaux, Munich, Stuttgart, Milan etc. Barbara Schmidt-Gaden was awarded at several international singing competitions, including the Torneo Internazionale di Musica in 1997 Rome and in 2000 at the Debut competition in Merano . In 2000 she received a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Association and in the same year she won the Richard Strauss Society's sponsorship award .

From 2001 to 2007 she was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz . There she stepped u. a. as Rosina in The Barber of Seville , Dorabella in Così fan tutte , Angelina in La Cenerentola , Mercédes in Carmen , Lola in Cavalleria rusticana , Idamante in Idomeneo and Suzuki in Madame Butterfly . In February 2002 she made her debut at the Bavarian State Opera , where she sang as a guest several times. From 2008 to 2010 Barbara Schmidt-Gaden was a member of the soloist ensemble of the Oldenburg State Theater . There she made her debut a. a. as Charlotte in Massenet's Werther . She also sang Carmen in the opera of the same name at the Lüneburg Theater . From 2010 she worked as a freelancer.

In addition to her engagement in the opera field, Schmidt-Gaden is active as an oratorio, lied and concert singer in Germany and other countries. She sang u. a. the alto part of the world premiere of the oratorio MenschenZeit by Lothar Voigtländer .

In 2015, Barbara Schmidt-Gaden took over the management of the Tölzer Knabenchor, Munich.

In 2016 she made her debut at the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau in Wagner's “Fliegendem Holländer” as Mary . In addition, she established relationships with the Bavarian Radio Choir and, after numerous project-related engagements, became a member of the ensemble in 2018.
