Katharina Dau

Katharina Dau (born June 25, 1944 in Habelschwerdt , Silesia ; † July 17, 2018 ) was a German opera, lied and concert singer (mezzo-soprano / alto).

Life

Dau studied singing with Ingrid Bettag and flute at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich . She completed master classes a. a. with Christa Ludwig and Gerda Scheyrer .

She had her first engagement at the Bavarian National Theater in Munich. There the artist sang under conductors such as Carlos Kleiber , Wolfgang Sawallisch , Rafael Kubelík , Karl Böhm and Nello Santi . Engagements and guest performances at several opera houses in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium and Australia followed. Her wide-ranging repertoire includes over 90 roles - including roles such as: Carmen, Dalila, Orpheus, Octavian, Charlotte, Dorabella and Eboli. For her portrayal of Octavian in the Rosenkavalier , Dau received the State Prize of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition to her stage work, she has given recitals, oratorios, and radio and television recordings in numerous countries.

The artist was a professor of singing at the Mannheim University of Music . She also gave international master classes for singing and lieder composition.
