Douinia ovata is a Lebermoosart the family of Jungermanniaceae . It is the only species in the genus Douinia .
features
The plants are up to an inch long and prostrate. They are blue-green in color and appear dull and matt due to a thick wax coating. The leaves are directed forward and divided into two unequal sized, lanceolate lobes. The lamina cells are thickened triangular. Each cell contains eight to 15 oil bodies. The perianth mouth has long cilia.
Distribution and locations
The species is distributed oceanic and occurs in Europe, in southern Greenland, in Pacific North America and in Japan. In Europe it is found in the Atlantic part east to the Vosges and the Belgian part of the High Fens , in Germany on the Bruchhauser Steinen ( Westphalia ), near Oberhof in the Thuringian Forest and in the southern Black Forest . It grows on shady tree bases and lime-free rocks.
