Ursula Buckel

Ursula Buckel , née Ursula Müller (born February 11, 1926 in Lauscha ; † December 5, 2005 in Geneva ) was a German singer (soprano) who celebrated international success as a lied, oratorio and cantata interpreter, especially with works by Mozart, Haydn, Bach and Monteverdi.

Life

Her musical talent, which was encouraged by her parents, became apparent very early on. She received lessons in singing, organ and piano. In her hometown she sang in the church choir and worked as an organist. In 1948 the family moved to Constance . The young soprano continued her vocal studies with Hans Hofflin and Ria Ginster . She soon advanced to become a recognized concert and oratorio singer, who celebrated international success, especially as a Bach interpreter, in collaboration with Karl Richter and the Munich Bach Choir . The artist sang in Switzerland, Italy, France, England, Finland etc. She took part in the FRG's first official cultural exchange with the Munich Bach Choir in Moscow, Leningrad and Kiev. Ursula Buckel, who had lived in Geneva since 1954 and was married to the ophthalmic prosthetist Werner Buckel, only sang once on the opera stage, in 1970 Donna Anna in Don Giovanni .

Since 1971 she has been teaching as a singing teacher at the Conservatory of Music in Geneva . Ursula Buckel also held master classes in many European cities. A large number of her students became famous singers such as Barbara Schmidt-Gaden , Susanne Heyng , Andrea Kurzer and Elke Burkert .

Numerous records and CD recordings, etc. a. with Maria Stader , Hertha Töpper , Edith Mathis , Kieth Engen , Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Peter Schreier , testify to her “beautifully formed voice”. Her television and radio appearances are innumerable.
