Barbara von Meibom (* 1947 , meanwhile Barbara Mettler-Meibom and Barbara Mettler-von Meibom ) is a German political scientist and communication scientist .

Life

Barbara von Meibom was born in 1947 as the daughter of the lawyer Hanspeter von Meibom and his wife Irmgard . She comes from the Lower Saxon noble family Meibom . From 1970 to 1994 she was married to the futurologist Prof. Dr. Hans Peter Mettler (1941-2020). The marriage resulted in two daughters (Nathalie Mettler 1974 and Pascale Mettler 1977).

From 1966 to 1971 she studied history, sociology and political science in Munich, Göttingen and most recently Konstanz, which she completed there in 1971 with a Magister Artium . In 1973 she was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. After working as a research assistant at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Tübingen , she led various research projects. After her habilitation, she was a private lecturer at the University of Hamburg from 1985 .

In 1989 she was appointed to the chair for political science with a focus on communication science at the University of Essen (later University of Duisburg-Essen), but took a leave of absence in 2004 and retired in 2012. In the 90s she founded a consulting company in Essen on issues of urban, organizational and personal development. In 2008 she moved to Berlin with the Comm unio Institute for Leadership Art.

Focus

Meibom's research focus was initially on the social consequences of technical developments, especially in the area of information and communication technology . In media studies , she turned to communication ecology in particular. Later she became increasingly concerned with leadership and personality development, with a focus on spirituality , mindfulness and appreciation .
