Barber Angels

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Barber Angels are hairdressers and barbers, as members of the charitable active association Barber Angels Brotherhood e. V. ( German  about Brotherhood of Barber Angels , abbreviated to BAB) provide hairdressing services to homeless and needy people throughout Germany free of charge.

history

The initiative to found the Barber Angels Brotherhood came from the master hairdresser Claus Niedermaier, who runs his own hairdressing salon in Biberach an der Riss in Upper Swabia . After a TV report about freezing homeless people, he felt the need to help. He then developed the concept of Barber Angels with friends and colleagues and founded the club in November 2016, which in November 2017 was transformed into a registered association based in Biberach an der Riss.

The now more than fifty club members across Germany are out and about once a month in their free time at their own expense to do good. The concept of the association includes a uniform appearance of the members, who work in a rocker - like appearance called an angel uniform in black leather vests with sewn-on club emblems. This should make it easier to start the conversation and increase the recognition effect.

The dates of the volunteer helpers are posted on the notice boards of non-profit organizations such as Caritas and Diakonie or in train station missions and parishes. The Barber Angels bring their equipment, including special washing hoods, with them. Thanks to the support of sponsors, the "angels with scissors" can give their guests a small " care package " with care products such as shampoo, comb and mirror as a gift after they have washed, cut their hair or trimmed their beards .

The response to the offer has been great. The Barber Angels also experience that after the free treatment, people remember their old self-confidence again and find the courage to go to job interviews and find jobs.

Reports about the association appeared in many daily and weekly newspapers. Some television channels such as ZDF and Sat.1 also broadcast reports on the Barber Angels. The founder of the initiative, Niedermaier, hopes that other professional groups will follow suit.

"We want to be a virus and infect other industries."
