Barbie computer games

Numerous video and computer games have been produced for Barbie , this is a list of several Barbie games. In addition to loose game titles, there is also the horse game series Barbie Horse Adventures and the Detective Barbie series .

Games published outside of a series

Barbie (1984)

The first computer game appeared in 1984 for the Commodore 64 and was developed by A. Eddy Goldfarb & Assoc and marketed by the Epyx company.

In this game, players take on the role of Barbie and accompany her through her everyday life. So Barbie has to talk to her boyfriend Ken and drive through the city in a yellow sports car to try out a new dress , new shoes and a bathing suit . There is also the option of having a romantic dinner outside of town or a relaxing day on the beach .

The wrong choice of clothes by the player causes Barbie to break off the date with Ken and start again the next day the preparations for the date. If the clothes have been chosen correctly, a photo will be taken of the date.

Criticism for the game has been negative as it does not teach children about the value of money . One reviewer recommends playing Donald Duck's Playground game instead , as it does that job.

Barbie (1991)

The second Barbie game was released in 1991 for the Nintendo Entertainment System and MS-DOS . The game was developed by Hi Tech Expressions and is one of the few video games released on the NES for girls.

Behind the game is a platform game in which the player has to move through her dreams as a Barbie. In this game the goal is to escape from the letters ZZZ, otherwise the level or the whole game must be repeated. In addition, animals can be selected to help her fight the boss .

Barbie: Game Girl (1992)

Barbie: Game Girl is a platform game released for Game Boy in 1992 . The music for the game is by Mark Van Hecke. The song Everybody Dance Now by C + C Music Factory can be heard on the game's title screen .

Players control Barbie and must find the right outfit for a date with Ken. Barbie explores a shopping center , an underwater world and other unusual places. The object of the game is to find gems and pearls that are dropped by the opponents, the game is considered to be very linear.

Sharks and jellyfish are among the enemies . In addition, Barbie also fights against sugar and moving cubes. This idea can also be found in the game EarthBound . The game Memory can be played as a bonus game .

Barbie: Super Model (1992)

Barbie: Super Model is a video game developed by Tahoe Software Productions and marketed by Hi Tech Expressions . The game was released for the Megadrive , Super Nintendo and MS-DOS. The game was later also released for PlayStation Network and Virtual Console .

Barbie: Vacation Adventure (1994)

The game Barbie: Vacation Adventure is an unreleased adventure game / sports game that accompanies Barbie on her journey through the USA . The game was never officially released for the Super Nintendo or the Megadrive, but an unofficial but fully functional ROM file of the game does exist . The game should become part of the Sega Club Collection.

The player can choose both Barbie and Midge as characters. Then the player can choose between the following locations: Wyoming , Iowa , Texas , Florida and California .

In Wyoming, Barbie and Midge spend their time camping. In Iowa, she attends a carnival and tries to find a runaway pig. In Florida the girls play volleyball and go diving . In Texas they throw horseshoes. In California, she spends her days in her apartment house. She can also ride three different horses in Wyoming.

The game is rated as poor.

Barbie: Explorer (2001)

Barbie: Explorer was released in 2001 for the PlayStation and tries to swim on the wave of the Tomb Raider . The game was developed by Runecraft and published by Vivendi Universal Games .

In this game, Barbie tries to repair a magical artifact called "Mystic Mirror". She visits the following places:

  • Tibet : the "Ruby Mask" can be found here
  • Egypt : the “Emerald Beetle” can be found here
  • Africa : the "Sapphire Shield" can be found here
  • Babylon : here the “Golden Statue” can be found

Each of these locations consists of four levels, the last level Babylon can only be played after the other artifacts have been found. The game ends with Barbie taking the artifacts to the museum and fixing the mirror.

Barbie as the Island Princess (2007)

The game itself is based on the film Barbie as Princess of the Animal Island and was released for the PlayStation 2 , the PC , the Wii , the Nintendo DS and the Game Boy Advance . This is a mini-game collection that consists of 28 mini-games.

Barbie: Groom and Glam Pups (2010)

Barbie: Groom and Glam Pups was released in 2010 for the Nintendo DS and Wii. It is the first Barbie game published by THQ . The game is a Nintendogs clone . Barbie has to take care of several dogs and prepare them for a dog show .

Barbie Horse Adventures

In 1999, Barbie: Race & Ride was released, a game that cannot be counted directly to the Barbie Horse Adventures series, but is considered to be a pioneer for this series of games. The following games have been released for the series.

Detective Barbie

The Detective Barbie series is a detective series in which the player slips into the role of Barbie and solves one criminal case per game.

Detective Barbie: The Mystery Of The Carnival Caper! (1998)

Detective Barbie: The Mystery Of The Carnival Caper! was developed by Gorilla Systems Corporation and marketed by Mattel .

This game is a point and click adventure in which Ken and the money made at a charity carnival disappear and Barbie has to look for both. The game consists of a total of 25 carnival scenes.

Detective Barbie 2: The Vacation Mystery (1999)

Detective Barbie 2: The Vacation Mystery is the direct sequel to the first part, which was also released on PC. Barbie has set up her own detective team consisting of Barbie, Ken and the wheelchair-dependent computer genius Kelly. In this game, the team wants to relax during their vacation. However, some jewels are stolen from her hotel, Lighthouse Cove, and Barbie and her friends are taking over the case.

Detective Barbie: The Mystery Cruise (2000)

Detective Barbie: The Mystery Cruise , unlike its predecessors, was developed by Runecraft and published on PlayStation .

In this game, valuable works of art were stolen from a ship's gallery. Barbie searches for the thief on three different tropical islands. It is equipped with a gadget such as the Infra-Red Lipstick for this purpose. The game is interrupted by several mini-games, the difficulty of which increases continuously.
