The Barnim barracks is a barracks of the armed forces at the site of Strausberg . It houses u. a. the headquarters of the 5th Air Force Division , parts of the Federal Office for Infrastructure, Environmental Protection and Services , a medical supply center, a ZAW care center with up to 160 course participants and other military and civil services and facilities. The Bundeswehr was to give up the property by 2024. In August 2019, the Federal Ministry of Defense announced that the property would not be given up in the context of the trend reversal in personnel and material. The number of course participants at the ZAW care center housed here will be increased to up to 300. The sports hall was renewed in 2010, the sports field in 2011, both facilities are also used civilly by surrounding clubs.

Location and development

The Barnim barracks is designated as a military security area, is located within the district of Strausberg-Vorstadt / Eggersdorf and is one of the largest military barracks in the state of Brandenburg. The property can be reached via the regional road L-23, Hennickendorfer-Chaussee ( ) or the main entrance L-303, ( ). In the area of ​​the Strausberg train station there is an access via the pedestrian bridge ( ). In addition, the barracks has a developed helicopter landing pad and a bunkered protective structure with two floors.

history

In 1957 the newly formed LSK / LV command of the National People's Army of the GDR was relocated to today's barracks complex, which has been known as Lambert-Horn barracks since March 1, 1967 .
