The 5th Luftwaffendivision ( 5. LwDiv ) ( division of the German Air Force in Strausberg from 1990 to 1994 . It was set up with German reunification on October 3, 1990 and was renamed the 3rd Air Force Division on April 1, 1994 . Since April 1, 1963, there was a command authority of the same name in Birkenfeld , which was renamed the 2nd Air Force Division on April 1, 1971 (see there).
) was atasks
The command of the 5th Air Force Division was set up as a transitional structure until 1994, since according to the two-plus-four treaty no military units subordinate to NATO were allowed to operate in East Germany for the period until the end of the stationing of Russian troops . Therefore, the command of the 5th Air Force Division had the task of independently leading the forces of the Air Force in East Germany and at the same time largely winding up the old air forces of the National People's Army .
history
With the day of German reunification on October 3, 1990, the existence of the National People's Army (NVA) ended. As early as August 1990, the German Armed Forces were dispatched to all areas of the NVA. On October 3, 1990, the preparation staff of the 5th Air Force Division was set up in the Barnim barracks in Strausberg (Eggersdorf) under the direction of Major General Bernhard Mende .
At that time, the previous NVA structures with the existing staff, including the LSK / LV command , continued to exist . However, from October 3, 1990, the command over the forces of the former LSK / LV lay with the command of the Bundeswehr. Some posts were staffed twice with NVA and Air Force personnel, with the NVA management personnel only acting in an advisory capacity.
This transition period ended on April 1, 1991, when the command of the 5th Air Force Division , and thus the 5th Air Force Division, was established.
In order to process NVA-LSK / LV units that were no longer in use, the order was given to temporarily set up the north in Trollenhagen and south in Cottbus , whose task was to dissolve the LSK / LV locations by October 30, 1991. A Nachkommando Eggersdorf was ordered to disband the LSK / LV command.
In 1994 the 5th Air Force Division in Strausberg was renamed the 3rd Air Force Division with simultaneous relocation to Berlin-Gatow and was dissolved there. The units and associations of the 5th Air Force Division were subordinated to the 3rd Air Force Division, which was also dissolved in 2006.
organization
The Preparatory Staff of the 5th Air Force Division was subordinate to the Bundeswehr Command East , which was disbanded on July 1, 1991. The subordination of the 5th Air Force Division to the Air Fleet Command took place in the same year.
