Larson Valley is a relatively flat valley between the southern end of Inferno Ridge and the Mhire Spur in the West Antarctic Heritage Range . It opens to the east to the Schneider glacier .
The valley was mapped by the United States Geological Survey as part of the 1961-66 survey of the Ellsworth Mountains through field surveys and aerial photographs by the United States Navy . Larson Valley was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names after DL Larson, an operator in the US Navy who was responsible for clearing snow from the Williams Field airfield at McMurdo Station during Operations Deep Freeze in 1965 and 1966 .
