Holzdorf is a district of the town of Jessen (Elster) in the district of Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt . The previously independent municipality, to which the district Kremitz still belonged, was incorporated into the town of Jessen (Elster) on March 1, 2004.

geography

Holzdorf is located south of the Fläming at the transition to the river valley of the Black Elster , on the banks of which lies the locality of Kremitz. The originally forested areas in the area are now mostly used for agriculture. Immediately to the east of the village is the border with the state of Brandenburg .

history

The church

Holzdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1419. The foundation of the village goes back to a nearby farm yard in Mönchenhöfe , from which Premonstratensian monks had extensive clearing work carried out in the wooded area. The place burned down during the Thirty Years War and was desolate until 1653.

During the time of the GDR , the municipality of Holzdorf belonged to the Jessen district in the Cottbus district . In 1982, the Fighter Wing 1 of the NVA , which had previously been based in Cottbus, was relocated to the airfield east of the town, which had been built since 1968. The Holzdorf Ost housing estate was also built in this context .

In 1990 the Jessen district and thus also Holzdorf became part of the state of Saxony-Anhalt. The Holzdorf Ost housing estate only became part of Saxony-Anhalt under state law in 1993 through a border shift following a state treaty between Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg; in fact, it already belonged to Holzdorf before that.

In 1991 the previously independent municipality of Kremitz joined the municipality of Holzdorf, which in turn joined Jessen in 2004.

coat of arms

Holzdorf has a coat of arms. "An oak and an ax are depicted in a white coat of arms on a green background."
