history
Großkorga was first mentioned in 1377 as Korgow . The place name means something like an area with stunted, low trees. The place is separated from Kleinkorga by the Schweinitzer Fließ, which was regulated in 1919 by the installation of several weirs. Until 1815 Großkorga was a direct administrative village in the Schweinitz office in the Kurkreis of the Kingdom of Saxony and then came to the administrative district of Merseburg in the Prussian province of Saxony . At that time there were 16 houses in the village, which were inhabited by 16 farmers, three gardeners and five cottagers. They mainly operated flax cultivation and forestry.
On January 1, 1992, the previously independent community Großkorga was incorporated into the city of Jessen. The district has an area of 515 ha, on which 94 residents live.
