history

On January 16, 1589, the Electorate Court Councilor Dr. jur. Andreas Rauchbar was enfeoffed by Elector Christian I of Saxony with the Hemsendorf estate in the administrative district of Schweinitz . Rauchbar had married Teuber's only daughter Teuber Euphrosina, who had inherited the Hemsendorf estate after her father's death. In 1592 this loan was renewed. After Rauchbar's death, his widow received a new feudal letter from Elector Christian II of Saxony on August 18, 1603. Their sons Andreas and Georg sold the Hemsendorf estate to the commandant of the fortress Wittenberg , who was enfeoffed with it in 1652. Christian Dietrich later took over from Röbel Hemsendorf.

Hemsendorf belonged to the Schweinitz office of the Kingdom of Saxony until 1815 and then came first to the Wittenberg district, then to the Schweinitz district of the Merseburg administrative district of the Prussian province of Saxony . In the village there was an old manor , today's Hemsendorf Castle , which Michael Teuber was awarded by the Elector August of Saxony for his services .

The villages of Gorsdorf and Ruhlsdorf also belonged to the manor. Many residents of Hemsendorf used to grow wine.

In 1950 Hemsendorf belonged to the Herzberg district , but during the administrative reform in 1952 it came to the Jessen district of the GDR district of Cottbus and in 1990 to the Dessau administrative district . On January 1, 1974, Hemsendorf merged with Gorsdorf to form the new municipality of Gorsdorf-Hemsendorf, which has belonged to Jessen (Elster) since January 1, 1994.
