history

Düßnitz village church

First mentioned in documents in 1416 as Dussenicz , the place name was probably derived from the Old Sorbian Dušnica , which means something like swampy terrain. The name Düßnitz has been established since 1791 .

When it was founded, the settlement of Wendish origin was laid out as a street village with narrowed exits in order to protect the settlement from dangers from outside.
