Klossa is a place in the district of Wittenberg , located directly on the Black Elster . First mentioned in a document in 1384, the place was known until its current spelling under the name Klossow, von der Clossow, Clossow, Clohsa. The name Klos , which probably comes from the Sorbian language, means ear of wheat.
Geographical location
Klossa is located about 35 km southeast of Lutherstadt Wittenberg , and about 15 km northwest of Herzberg (Elster) .
Klossa is located in the cool-temperate climate zone . The next weather stations are to the west in Jessen (Elster) and east at the Holzdorf airfield . The month with the least rainfall is February, the wettest is June. The mean annual air temperature is 9.2 ° C at the Jessen weather station about 12 kilometers to the west
history
Finds from the time of the Lusitzi indicate a Slavic origin of the place. According to these soil finds, the land on the lower Elster was already settled in the Middle Stone Age. A grave field from the 1st century BC was found here at a depth of approx. 30 cm. In the state tax register of 1554 Klossa is mentioned as a bush village. A major flood of the Black Elster is reported as early as 1595. The water is said to have been a margin high in the church. During the Thirty Years War Klossa was at times completely depopulated. Klossa has suffered from floods before. Severe floods are known from the years 1818, 1838, 1845, 1926, 1927 and 1940. The resulting final straightening of the Black Elster took place around 1928. The year the volunteer fire brigade Klossa was founded, 1879 is named. The source for this is a newspaper article in the Lausitzer Rundschau from September 23, 1994. On July 23, 1899, the windmill was destroyed by a hurricane. However, the mill was rebuilt in the following years. After its dismantling and sale in 1985, it can now be viewed as a technical monument in Werder (Havel) . In 1924, Klossa was connected to the public electricity supply. In the First World War fell ten inhabitants Klossas, from the Second World War returned 16 inhabitants not return. On May 8, 1954, the bridge of friendship over the Black Elster to Mönchenhöfe was opened to traffic. However, the bridge had to be closed a few years later due to construction defects and was then torn down again. Klossa was incorporated into Schweinitz on January 1, 1978. After the incorporation of Schweinitz into Jessen, Klossa has been part of the city of Jessen since January 1st, 1993 .

Buildings
The village church , which was built in the second half of the 13th century and is a listed building . The small hall church with a straight east end and the set west tower is made of lawn iron stone and was rebuilt in 1910 and 1911.
Leisure and Tourism
The black Elster cycle path, which is around 108 kilometers long, runs along Klossa. The Klossa Horse Day, which has been held together with the village festival since 2000, and in the beginning . The event has been held as an independent event since 2004 and is very popular in the region. The local heritage association and the village's volunteer fire department are responsible for the cultural life in the village.

Klossa is located directly on the Black Elster. The Annaburg Heath is about five kilometers upstream . This is mainly used for military purposes as a military training area but also for forestry. The oxbow lakes of the Black Elster are of particular importance from a nature conservation perspective. In the area of Klossa, these waters are the old river course of the Black Elster, which can still be easily recognized, before it was straightened.

The district road 2219, which connects it with the B187 in Schweinitz, runs through the village. The most important employers in the vicinity are the Holzdorf airfield , 8 km away , the Annaburger Nutzfahrzeug GmbH in Annaburg and the agricultural cooperative Holzdorf / Elster in Mönchenhöfe .
education
The local students are currently enrolled in the Schweinitz elementary school . In Jessen is a further education institution a secondary school which has the status of a full-time school. Also in Jessen there is the possibility to attend the grammar school from the 5th grade. The nearest daycare centers are in Holzdorf and Annaburg . Since the 2011/2012 school year it has also been possible to enroll children in the Holzdorf Evangelical Primary School.

The Mitteldeutsche Zeitung appears as a regional daily newspaper with a circulation of around 205,000 copies. The weekly advertising papers Wochenspiegel and Super Sonntag appear free of charge . The city of Jessen publishes the city gazette of Jessen every month.
