Works
Works in C sharp major are comparatively rare. The D flat major , which is identical in the Enharmonik (not in the tone color) , is more common, since (in contrast to C sharp major) it only has 5 accidentals and is therefore in the circle of fifths . The best known are Johann Sebastian Bach's Preludes and Fugues in The Well-Tempered Clavier , especially the prelude of the first part. Even if a work begins in C major and is transposed up a semitone over the course of the work (often by moving it back ), the transposed part should be notated in C sharp major rather than D flat major.
