The Transportfliegerstaffel 24 (TS-24) was a flying unit in battalion strength of the NVA air forces in direct subordinate to the command organ front u. Military transport air forces .

history

Lineup

The squadron was set up in accordance with Order 14/63 of the Minister for National Defense on May 2, 1963 at Dessau airfield as Transportfliegerstaffel 27 (TFS-27), with parts of Transportfliegergeschwader 17 (TG-17) being taken over. At the same time, the Aviation Technical Battalion 27 (FTB-27), which was directly subordinate to the squadron, was set up for supply and support.

Relocation and name change

In October 1963 both formations were relocated to the Dresden-Klotzsche airfield . With the restructuring on December 1, 1971, the name was changed to TFS-24 and FTB-24. The final designation TS-24 was used from 1975.

structure

The TS-24 consisted of up to four transport flight chains and two aerial photo chains.

Specialty

The training to become a helmsman / navigation officer of the officers' college for military pilots in the fourth and final year of study took place in the TS-24 using an An-26 transport aircraft.

Takeover in the Bundeswehr and dissolution

On 3 October 1990, the TS-24 was in the air transport squadron 65 of the Air Transport Command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces adopted. In November 1992 the TS-24 was finally disbanded as the Dresden-Klotzsche air transport group of the air transport squadron 65 formed in 1991 .

The position of the squadron commander was comparable to that of battalion commander in the army .
