The list of aircraft of the National People's Army contains the aircraft of all branches of the National People's Army (NVA) since its creation in 1956. The list is arranged according to aircraft classes and types. For each type the use in the NVA and how many machines in which units were in service. The majority of the aircraft come from Soviet production, a different origin is indicated in the type. For more detailed information on the machines and their whereabouts, see the respective articles.

Explanation

  • Type: gives the name of the machine. The country of manufacture is given in brackets if it is not the Soviet Union.
  • Image: Here you can see a picture of the machine.
  • Armed Forces: The armed forces to which the machines belonged.
  • Period of service: From when to when the machines were in service with the NVA.
  • Unit: The unit or squadron in which the machines were stationed.
  • Number of pieces: The total number of machines that were in service with the NVA.
  • Comments: States the main purpose of the machine in the NVA.
