Baron Astor of Hever
Baron Astor of Hever , of Hever Castle in the County of Kent , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award
The title was created on January 21, 1956 for John Jacob Astor of the Astor family . He had won a gold medal in rackets in men's doubles at the Summer Olympics in 1908 and represented the Dover constituency in the House of Commons for over 20 years . In addition to various offices in the banking sector that he held, he was the owner of the Times from 1922 to 1959 .
Since the first baron was the fourth son of William Waldorf Astor, 1st Viscount Astor , the respective baron stands in the line of succession for the title Viscount Astor and the subordinate barony Astor .
