Gavin Astor, 2nd Baron Astor of Hever (born June 1, 1918 , † June 28, 1984 in Tillypronie , Aberdeenshire ) was a British nobleman and publisher .

He was the eldest son of John Jacob Astor, 1st Baron Astor of Hever and his wife Violet Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound.

He has degrees from Eton College and the College of St. Mary . During World War II, he served as a captain in the Life Guards . In 1955 he was promoted to High Sheriff of Sussex . In 1956 he was Deputy Lieutenant (DL) of Sussex, 1966 Deputy Lieutenant (DL) of Kent . In 1972 he became Custos Rotulorum of Kent and Lord Lieutenant of Kent. He was a board member and managing director at various companies, particularly in the publishing industry .

When his father died in 1971, he inherited his title of nobility, including the associated seat in the House of Lords , as well as the family seat of Hever Castle in Kent .

On October 4, 1945 he married Lady Irene Violet Freesia Janet Augusta Haig, daughter of 1st Earl Haig .

On June 28, 1984, he died at the age of 66 years to cancer , his title was inherited by his eldest son.
