Earl of Orrery
Earl of Orrery is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .
Award
The title was given on September 5, 1660 by King Charles II to Roger Boyle, 1st Baron Boyle of Broghill . On February 28, 1628, he was raised to Baron Boyle of Broghill , also in the Peerage of Ireland .
His grandson, the 4th Earl, was raised to Baron Boyle of Marston , in the County of Somerset , in the Peerage of Great Britain on September 5, 1711 . In contrast to his Irish titles, this title was linked to a hereditary seat in the House of Lords until 1999 .
His son, the 5th Earl, inherited in 1753 the title of 5th Earl of Cork , created in 1620 in the Peerage of Ireland , along with the subordinate titles of 5th Viscount Dungarvan , 5th Viscount Boyle of Kinalmeaky and 5th Baron Boyle of Youghal . The two earldoms have since been united.
