Edmund Boyle, 7th Earl of Cork ( November 21, 1742 - October 6, 1798 ) was a British peer and politician .

Life

Edmund Boyle came from an Anglo-Irish noble family and was a younger son of John Boyle, 5th Earl of Cork , from his second marriage to Margaret Hamilton. He was like his older half-brother Hamilton Boyle, 6th Earl of Cork in the Westminster School educated and studied, also like his half-brother, the Christ Church College of Oxford University . He was Page of Honor to the Prince of Wales and from 1761 to 1763 Gentleman Usher to Queen Charlotte . When his half-brother Hamilton died childless on January 17, 1764, he inherited his Irish and British nobility titles and the associated seats in the Irish and British House of Lords . As a liberal he belonged to the Whigs' party .

Since August 31, 1764 he was married to Anne Courtenay, from whom he was divorced in 1782. With her he had a daughter and three sons:

  • Lady Lucy Isabella Boyle († 1801), ⚭ Rev. Hon. George Bridgeman, son of 1st Baron Bradford ;
  • John Richard Boyle, Viscount Dungarvan (1765-1768);
  • Edmund Boyle, 8th Earl of Cork (1767–1856), General in the British Army , ⚭ Isabella Poyntz;
  • Hon. Sir Courtenay Boyle (1770–1844), Vice-Admiral of the Royal Navy , ⚭ Carolina Poyntz.

On June 17, 1786, he was the second wife of the Hon. Mary Monckton, daughter of John Monckton, 1st Viscount Galway . This marriage remained childless. He died on October 6, 1798. His son Edmund succeeded him as the 8th Earl of Cork.
