Baron Howden
Baron Howden was a hereditary British title of nobility , which was awarded once each in the Peerage of Ireland and the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Awards and Expiration
For the first time on October 19, 1819, the title Baron Howden , of Grimston and of Spaldington and of Cradockstown in the County of Kildare was bestowed in the Peerage of Ireland to the British general and politician Sir John Cradock , who was governor of the Cape Colony from 1811 to 1814 . On September 10, 1831, he was also awarded the title Baron Howden , of Howden and Grimston in the County of York , in the Peerage of the United Kingdom . He changed the spelling of his family name from "Cradock" to "Caradoc" on December 19, 1831 with a royal license.
Both titles expired on the childless death of his son, the 2nd baron, on October 9, 1873.
