Barrington Watson

Barrington Watson (born January 9, 1931 in Lucea , Hanover Parish , Jamaica , † January 26, 2016 in Kingston , Jamaica) was a Jamaican painter and writer.

Life

After attending Kingston College , he emigrated to London , where he studied at the London School of Printing and Graphic Art and the Royal College of Art . Before he returned to Jamaica in 1961, he stayed in Amsterdam , Paris and Madrid , among others .

In 1962 he became the first director of the newly founded Jamaica School of Art . He later founded various organizations and institutions in his home country, including the Contemporary Jamaican Artists Association (1964) and the Jamaica Art Foundation (1985).

He also published a collection of short stories with Shades Of Gray .

The most important theme of his works is the life of the population.
