Bartholomäus Fersterer (born May 4, 1882 in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer , Salzburg ; † July 6, 1949 there ) was an Austrian politician . Although he did not belong to any political party, he is counted as part of the Christian social camp.

Life

After attending elementary school , Bartholomäus Fersterer was initially a servant and later a day laborer on various farms in the state of Salzburg. After making a living as a bricklayer for a short time , he found work from 1912 at the so-called Kühmaierhof in Saalfelden.

His political career began in 1919 when he was elected to the Saalfelden municipal council. In 1929 he was elected mayor; he remained so until Austria was annexed to Germany in 1938. On April 25, 1934 Fersterer was sworn in as a member of the Federal Council in Vienna . Fersterer is still one of the federal councilors with the shortest term of office, since after just one week, on May 2, 1934, he left the second Austrian parliamentary chamber to accept a mandate in the Salzburg state parliament . Fersterer was then - also until 1938 - active as a member of the state parliament.

In 1938 Fersterer was replaced as Mayor of Saalfelden by NSDAP member Hans Großlercher . Until 1945 he was imprisoned several times for unspecified reasons.
