Bartold Kerkhof

Bartold Kerkhof , also Bertold Kerkhof (* in Rostock ; † 1510 or later there) was a German merchant and mayor of the Hanseatic city of Rostock.

Bartold Kerkhof came from a family of the Rostock patriciate, whose family name has been handed down in different spellings. Several Bartold Kerkhof belonged to the Rostock council from the 14th to the 16th century and also became mayors of the city. Bartold Kerkhof received his bachelor's degree in Artes from the University of Rostock in 1446 and studied law at the University of Cologne from autumn 1447 to 1450 . He built the Kerkhoffhaus in Rostock in 1470 . Kerkhof had to flee as the first mayor of Rostock during the city's disputes with the sovereigns in the Rostock cathedral feud from 1487-1491 on March 27, 1487 together with the other mayor Arndt Hasselbeck because of both sides for the princes in their care, after Kerkhof a gallows the front door was painted and from now on he had to fear for his life in Rostock. In the comparison between the council and the councilors who fled to the dukes in 1488, they were assured of their property and the whereabouts of the families. In 1491 he was reinstated in his council offices. He represented Rostock at numerous Hanseatic days . According to a handwritten message, Bartolt Kerkhoff lived until after 1510.
