Bartolomeo Coda

Bartolomeo Coda , called Bartolomeo da Rimini (verifiable from 1516 ; † December 26, 1565 in Rimini ) was an Italian painter.

Bartolomeo Coda was a son of Benedetto Coda and was probably trained by him. From 1516 he worked in his workshop in Rimini. From 1537 at the latest, he took over its management. Around 1528 he received from the Rochus Brotherhood the commission for a Madonna with Saints Rochus , Sebastian and angels, which has not survived. It is not clear whether it is identical to the picture in the Hildesheim Museum, which was only once preserved in fragments and burned in 1945.

In 1531 Bartolomeo and his father were commissioned to paint a Mother of God with God the Father and Saints James , Christophorus and Catherine for the community of San Domenico in Cesena . The picture can no longer be verified today. In 1541 he received the order from the Sebastian Brotherhood in Rimini, for a holy Sebastian with the hll. Rochus and Vincent Ferrer . Membership in the Codas City Council is documented for 1544. In 1549 he painted a guest room in the Palazzo Comunle; the work is not preserved. In the next few years, numerous other commissions, altar paintings and frescoes, from predominantly Catholic institutions, which have only partially been preserved. He also received orders from Dalmatia , where he sent some of his works. He probably decided to become a Dominican by 1562 at the latest .

Artistically, his works are close to those of his father, with a clear influence from Raphael's art being recognizable.
