Bartolomeo Laurenti was a violinist at various churches in Bologna, including the Basilica of San Petronio . His teacher was Ercole Gaibara , who later also taught Arcangelo Corelli . Laurenti traveled to numerous cities in northern Italy as a virtuoso and was a founding member of the Accademia Filarmonica , founded in 1666 , as well as second violinist at San Petronio, where he shared the same desk with the concertmaster Giuseppe Torelli , they were both responsible for the solos in the concerti grossi . Laurenti taught as a music teacher at the Collegio San Francesco Saverio and is considered an important trainer of his sons Girolamo Nicolò Laurenti , Pietro Paolo Laurenti and Lodovoco Filipo Laurenti. In a document from 1700 he is mentioned as Maestro di violino e tromba marina . The string instrument tromba marina often replaced the trumpet in nunneries. In 1706 he was retired to San Petronio while continuing to pay his full salary, which is to be seen as a privilege rarely granted.

The Laurenti family was an important dynasty of musicians who had produced numerous composers, instrumental and vocal virtuosos in northern Italy over several generations. His daughter Antonia Maria Laurenti belonged to that overpriced Italian opera troupe, well known in music history, that Francesco Maria Veracini had brought to the Dresden court for the wedding of the Prince Elector.
