Girolamo Nicolò Laurenti

Girolamo Nicolò Laurenti (born June 4, 1678 in Bologna , † December 26, 1751 there ) was an Italian violinist and composer .

Life

Girolamo Nicolò Laurenti came from a family of musicians, he learned to play the violin from his father Bartolomeo Laurenti (1644–1726), then from Giuseppe Torelli and Tomaso Antonio Vitali . In 1699 he was accepted as a musician in the Accademia Filarmonica and in 1710 as a composer. In 1706 he was able to take over his father's position at the Basilica of San Petronio and was appointed concertmaster there by Giacomo Antonio Perti in 1734 . Johann Joachim Quantz praised him as concertmaster of the orchestra at the Teatro San Giovanni Grisostomo in Venice . Johann Georg Pisendel made several copies of works by Laurenti for his library (the so-called Schranck No: II ) in the Dresden Hofkirche. In addition to the works for strings, Laurenti wrote some sacred works.
