Basil Feldman

Basil Feldman, Feldman Baron (* 23. September 1926 ; † 19th November 2019 ) was a British politician of the Conservative Party and businessman .

life and career

Feldman was born on September 23, 1926 to Tilly (née Katz; 1902–1977) and Philip Feldman. He attended the Grocers' School .

Business career

Feldman was Chairman of Martlet Services Group Ltd from 1973 to 1981 . From 1980 to 1985 he was chairman of the Solport Ltd . He has held this position for Watchpost Ltd since 1983 .

Feldman was a director of the Young Entrepreneurs Fund from 1985 to 1994. From 1977 to 1984 he was a member of the Free Enterprise Loan Society . He founded the Better Made in Britain Campaign and was its chairman ( Chairman ) from 1983 to 1998. From 1987 to 1992 he was chairman of The Quality Mark from 1988 to 1994 at the Shopping Hours Reform Council and Better Business Opportunities 1990-1998 From 1994 to 1995 he directed the Festival of Arts and Culture and from 1993 to 1996 the London Arts Season . At the UNESCO- affiliated Institutional Internat de Promotion et de Prestige Geneva he was Membre Consultatif from 1978 to 1993. From 1978 to 1981 he was a member of the National Council of Post Office Users' . He was a member of the English Tourist Board from 1986 to 1996 .

From 1978 to 1985 Feldman was Chairman ( Chairman ) of Clothing EDC (NEDO). Feldman was 1991-1993 Chairman ( Chair of) Market Opportunities Advisory Group at the Department of Trade and Industry . He has been described as a former plastic toy magnate whose business interests, according to one report, include " Sindy dolls, airplane kits and yo-yos ."

Political career

In the Greater London Area National Union of Conservative and Unionist Associations , he was from 1975 to 1978 Deputy Chairman ( Deputy Chairman ), 1978-1981 Chairman ( Chairman ), 1981-1985 President and since 1985 Vice President ( Vice-President ).

In the National Union of Conservative and Unionist Associations , he was initially 1982-1985 Deputy Chairman ( Deputy Chairman ), 1985-1986 Chairman ( Chairman ). Feldman has been Vice President there since 1986. From 1975 to 1998 he was a member of the Executive Committee , where he was Chairman from 1991 to 1996 . In 1985 he chaired the party congress in Blackpool . He chaired the Conservative Party's Impact 80s Campaign from 1982 to 1990.

He was a member of the Policy Group for London from 1975 to 1981, and again since 1984. In 1976 and 1978 he was a member of the National Campaign Committee . From 1981 to 1984 he was a member of the Advisory Committee on Policy and from 1984 to 1990 the Committee for London .

Since 1996 he has been a member of the Conservative Party Board of Treasurers and treasurer of his party. From 1975 to 1977 he was Vice President of the Greater London Young Conservatives . He was president of the Richmond and Barnes Conservative Association from 1976 to 1984 and of the Hornsey Conservative Association from 1978 to 1982 . In the Hampstead Conservative Association Feldman was from 1981 to 1986 Patron ( Patron ).

He ran for Richmond in the 1973 GLC elections. From 1973 to 1977 he was a member of the Greater London Council Housing Management Committee and the Greater London Council Arts Committee from 1976 to 1981. Feldman served on the National Union Executive Committee from 1975 to 1999. From 1991 to 1996 he was chairman there ( Chair ).

Membership in the House of Lords

On 15 January 1996, he became a life peer as Baron Feldman, of Frognal in the London Borough of Camden appointed. His supporters were Margaret Thatcher and Cecil Parkinson when he was officially inducted into the House of Lords on February 14, 1996 . He gave his inaugural address on April 24, 1996. On the website of the House of Lords, he lists industry, the arts, the construction industry, retail trade , import substitution , tourism and sport as topics of political interest . He mentions Austria , Germany , the West Indies and the USA as states of interest .

Other offices

Feldman is a former member of Lloyd's of London . At Salzburg Festival Trust , he was chairman ( chairman ) 1998-2003 and Vice Chairman ( Vice-Chairman ) from 1997 to 1998. Feldman is Chairman ( Chairman ) of the Fresh Hope Trust , which will be closed shortly.

Honors

Feldman was named a Knight Bachelor in 1982 . In 2003 he was awarded the silver medal of honor of the city of Salzburg . In 1987 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts .

Family and private

Feldman married Gita Julius on October 20, 1952. They have two sons and a daughter. One of the sons is Nicholas Feldman from the band Wang Chung . Basil Feldman's younger sister is the actress Fenella Fielding .

Feldmann is a member of the Garrick and Carlton Club .
