Basitonia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under Basitonie means the promotion of bud size at the base of annual shoots. This results in a stronger side shoot growth at the shoot base. Basitonia is typical of shrubs and perennial herbaceous plants . The structure of the shrub is formed by the usually annual formation of new sprouts from buds close to the ground.

Opposites to basitonia are acrotonia (the promotion of buds at the tips of annual shoots, which is typical for trees ) and mesotonia (promotion and branching of the shoots in the middle area, characteristic of certain shrubs).

The term basiton was first introduced by Karl Göbel in 1928 to promote leaf growth in the lower part, and later he also used it for inflorescences .
